On arrival in Surama, you will receive a warm welcome from a staff member and have a refreshing snack then discuss your itinerary to confirm any changes, then settle into your accommodation. Your guide will then take you on a village tour to visit the local school, medical centre, and church along with some village houses before having lunch. This Tour is approximately 3 km.
As the afternoon cools your guide will take you for a short walk on the Marabunta trails to observe the forest and bird life.
Tonight enjoy an educational walk to observe wildlife and experience the mystique of the forest after dark. (L, D)
After an early breakfast, a vehicle will transfer you back out to the main road and along it to the beginning of the harpy trail. After forty-five minutes of level trail walking through the rain forest we will come to a very large “Brazilian Cedar” tree which is home to a harpy eagle nest. Depending on the age of the chick, we will move around quietly and slowly to get the best view.
Return to the lodge for lunch and discuss with your guide what is a good activity. Either a visit to the Pootoo daytime roosting site or a trail walk. (B, L, D)
Rise before dawn for a walk across the savannah and then a challenging climb up the Surama Mountain in the cool morning air. This is the best time to observe bird and wildlife along the trail. Breakfast will be served at a lookout point which affords incredible views across the village and savannah to the Pakaraima Mountains. Return to the village for lunch this tour is approximately 8km.
After a 1 hour siesta, you will then take a walk or transfer across the savannah and through the rain forest to the Burro Burro River. We will go in a boat either up or down the river depending on the level of the water. (B, L, D)
